Get Ready, Get Set, Read!

Dear Parents,

It is hard to believe that summer is upon us!!  It is a great time to enjoy the sunshine and some terrific books!  All students must do the required reading listed at the top of the book list. [Hopefully everyone will choose to read more !!!] Then they must list their favorites on the enclosed form and hand it in by Friday September 8, 2006. Most of the books listed are available at the Colonie Library or Watervliet Library. If you cannot find the book you would like, ask the librarians for help. They can put in a request and when they locate it they will have it sent to the library for you.

We also encourage everyone to take their reading a step further and join

The Maplewood School Reading Challenge.  All students who complete the challenge requirements for their grade level will receive something special.

Here’s the Challenge:

For boys and girls entering 1st or 2nd grade

1.       Make a poster {Please note if you do make a poster, please, please do NOT roll it, because it makes it very difficult to get it to stay on the walls.} about your summer reading experience.  You can include pictures of yourself reading, drawings about the books you read, or even write short book reviews.  Be creative!

2.      List 5 of your favorite books on the enclosed form.  Be sure to include the title and the author for each book.

3.    Bring your project/poster and list to school by Friday September 8, 2006.  All projects will be displayed throughout the hallways of Maplewood School!

For students entering 3rd – 8th grade

1.       Read a total of five books.

2.      List the books you read on the enclosed form.  Be sure to include the Title and Author.

3.      Then choose your favorite book and write a report about the book.

4.      Bring your report and list to school by Friday  September 6, 2006.  Reports and posters will be displayed throughout the hallways of Maplewood School!
